Let's Save Water
Let's Save Water is a campaign to help everyone use less water by making small, everyday changes.
Why do we need to use less water?
In many parts of England, we're using water faster than nature can replace. Climate change means drier summers and heavier winter rain, making it harder for rivers and reservoirs to refill.
Using too much water harms the environment, wildlife and can make droughts last longer.
We often use more water than we realise at home and work. If nothing changes, by 2055 England could face a daily shortage of over 5 billion litres of water.
What can we do about it?
We all need to act. The water industry is investing billions to upgrade the network, but small changes by everyone at home and at work will make a big difference.
Most people in England use nearly 140 litres a day. We each need to save about 28 litres daily, all year round.
Everyday ways to save water:
- cut your shower by two minutes to save 28 litres.
- Use a washing up bowl instead of a running tap to save 10 litres per minutes.
- Fix a leaky loo to save up to 400 litres a day.
- Use eco-mode on appliances to save 10 litres per wash.
