Interesting Fact

Wiltshire Council area was made up of 4 Districts and a County Council until 2009 when they were all merged into 1 unitary authority called Wiltshire Council.

Responsibilities

Wiltshire Council’s responsibilities range from the obvious such as potholes, schools, social care, benefits and bins to lesser known activities such as public health, food safety, highway gritting and leisure centres. Almost everyone in the community uses a council service every day, we just do so without realising.

Key Roles in Response

The Local Authority tends to cover the areas in incident response many of us forget about. These include, air quality monitoring, evacuations, feeding evacuees, road closures, health outbreaks and modern slavery. Although Wiltshire Council is rarely the first on the scene, they are always present in the background of any large incident supporting their emergency services colleagues.
