BTP is the specialist police force for the railways and polices more than 10,000 miles of track and over 3000 stations and rail depots.
Responsibilities
BTP provide a policing service to the rail industry and have full police constabulary powers, (both on and off the railway), and responsibilities for the safeguarding of passengers and staff, management of incidents and the investigation of crime on the railway.
Key Roles in Response
Providing appropriately trained commanders and responding officers at all levels to an incident response. For major incidents on the railway, they will chair the multi-agency group meetings, coordinate the response of other agencies and will lead on any criminal investigation. For incidents outside of the rail infrastructure, they will support partner agencies in the wider multi-agency response.
