National Highways do not look after all roads, nor do they just look after motorways. Some of the examples in Wiltshire that come under National Highways are, the M4, A303, A36 and the A419.

Responsibilities

To identify and mitigate risks to the Strategic Road Network (SRN). To work with Local Highway Authorities to limit the impacts to the road users, both on and off the SRN. To liaise with emergency services when appropriate. To input to larger scale events adjacent to, or nearby the SRN. To give tactical advice to the South West Regional Operations Centre. 

Key Roles in Response

To liaise with and give advice to the South West Regional Operation Centre. To attend multi-agency group meetings where appropriate to the SRN. To create and update Commonly Recognised Information Pictures (CRIP) for both internal and external stakeholders in times of major incident.
