The Met Office was founded by Vice-Admiral Robert Fitzroy in 1854 and produced its first public weather forecast in 1861.

Responsibilities

The Met Office provide meteorological information in support of emergency planning across Wiltshire and Swindon, both for incidents caused by the weather itself or for other incidents where weather can have an influence, such as wind direction dispersing smoke from a fire.

Key Roles in Response

Met Office Advisors will join multi-agency meetings to provide up to date weather and advice based on information from the National Severe Weather Warnings Service.
