Responsibilities

Provide humanitarian assistance to people in crisis and reduce the chance of people falling through gaps in the health and social care system. They support not just people affected by emergencies but also, vulnerable people returning home from hospital and refugees/asylum seekers who are living within our communities.

The British Red Cross ensures that it will ‘refuse to ignore people in crisis’ by making sure it remains neutral, independent, impartial and focused on the needs of the people it serves.

Key Roles in Response

  1. Provide practical humanitarian support – this may involve the delivery of cash-based assistance, in-kind support (e.g. goods and items that are needed), signposting and advocacy for those in crisis and assistance with temporary accommodation for those displaced from their homes.
  2. Provide psychosocial support to people in crisis – utilising their CALMER psychosocial support tools to allow people to begin processing the events and emotions they have experienced during a time of crisis in their lives.
