Consultation on making public services quicker, easier and more secure to access with digital ID
On 10 March, the government launched a consultation asking the public to share their views on how the new digital ID could help them access public services more quickly, easily and securely.
The government wants to draw on the expertise of a wide range of stakeholders, from businesses to trade unions, technologists and civil society, as well as leaders in the public and private sectors who can use the digital ID to improve services for people in the UK.
From managing free childcare payments to filing tax returns, the consultation will seek views from people on how the system could be used to make public services work better for them.
Government by app will be as easy and secure as online banking and will be available to those who want it. Existing routes to accessing public services will continue to be available for those who prefer them.
The consultation closes on 5 May.
