Terrorism: Businesses
This article contains information & advice regarding risks that do not appear on the Risk Register.
What should Businesses do in relation to Terrorism?
Businesses have a responsibility for their staff and customers in relation to keeping them safe. Unlike fire safety and health safety in general, terrorism isn’t usually something businesses think about – however, there are some simple steps that can help you become better prepared.
The Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure holds guidance on something called SCaN which refers to See, Check and Notify. SCaN aims to help businesses and organisations maximise safety and security using their existing resources.
What is it?
SCaN is all about using your most powerful resource (your people) in preventing and tackling a range of threats including terrorism, criminal activity and unlawful protests. It is based around staff (in any position) undertaking FREE training to help them correctly identify suspicious activity, and to know what to do when they encounter it. It also ensures that people seeking to cause an organisation harm are unable to get the information they need to plan their actions.

SCaN has a variety of different modules available for different job roles, is completely FREE and is delivered by qualified trainers. It is not about you needing to spend more money or employing more staff, it is about learning what small changes can be made to help protect your business or organisation.
