Safety Campaign for Youth Launched

Run, hide, tell - counter terrorism PolicingCounter Terrorism Policing have enlisted the support of celebrities from entertainment and sport to launch their first-ever safety campaign aimed at children and teenagers.

TV star Bear Grylls and England footballer Jamie Vardy are among the leading stars supporting the first phase of a new initiative designed to teach 11-16 year olds how to react in the unlikely event they are caught in a gun or knife terror attack.

Councils have preparations in place ahead of winter season

Winter in WiltshireBoth our local Councils have put plans in place ready for the coming Winter.

Swindon Borough Council is stocked up with twelve hundred tonnes of salt should freezing temperatures hit the Borough over the coming months.  Wiltshire Council is stocked up with 11,000 of salt this year. This year's supply is well over what was spread on the County's road's in 2016/17.

Exercise Astral Bend

On Thursday 13th September 2017, local agencies including Wiltshire Police, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service and Wiltshire Council conducted a ‘live’ exercise with colleagues from the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston called ‘Astral Bend’.   This was a full day and took place at MOD Lyneham, and was based around a simulated emergency during the air transport of Special Nuclear Material.

Local agencies have been working together in the months preceeding winter to prepare for bad weather associated with the winter months. There are plans in place for organisations to work together in the event of a sever weather incident.

Army and Environment Agency conduct Flood Barrier Training in Wiltshire

Exercise Manhattan

Exercise ManhattanOn Friday 7th October 2016, the Local Resilience Forum undertook the final exercise in their autumn trilogy of exercising aimed at responders being prepared to respond to a major incident or emergency. The overall purpose is to help keep the people of Wiltshire and Swindon safe.  Agencies attended MOD Corsham so that plans could be tested together in a multi-agency environment in response to a major incident scenario at the site.

The exercise focussed on a chemical incident at a fictitious factory on the West Wiltshire Trading Estate in Westbury.
