The Emergency Services Show is back with new venue!

Emergency kitAfter a year’s break, the Emergency Services Show is back for 2017 – and it has a new home!

The Show will be held in six months’ time, on Sunday 3 September at Cotswold Airport, just ten minutes north of the old showground at Hullavington.

 

Army and Environment Agency conduct Flood Barrier Training in Wiltshire

Flood barrier trainingWiltshire based soldiers from 5th Battalion The Rifles and The King’s Royal Hussars undertook flood defence training provided by the Environment Agency today, Wednesday 29 November. The exercise, called WESSEX TEAL, was conducted to ensure that troops are fully conversant in the design and construction of the latest flood defence barriers.

Wiltshire winterWe perhaps all take for granted that during bad weather our roads and pavements will be gritted. This does not happen by chance and involves months of maticulous planning by both Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council. It is difficult to accurately provide a long-term weather forecast so it is important that we are as prepared as we can be for the onset of winter. Both Councils are key members of the LRF and work in close collaboration with colleagues in partner agencies.

Exercise Manhattan

Exercise ManhattanOn Friday 7th October 2016, the Local Resilience Forum undertook the final exercise in their autumn trilogy of exercising aimed at responders being prepared to respond to a major incident or emergency. The overall purpose is to help keep the people of Wiltshire and Swindon safe.  Agencies attended MOD Corsham so that plans could be tested together in a multi-agency environment in response to a major incident scenario at the site.

The exercise focussed on a chemical incident at a fictitious factory on the West Wiltshire Trading Estate in Westbury.

Countdown to new combined Fire & Rescue Service

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue.It is now less than three months until the new Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service comes into being. As of 1 April 2016, the local authority areas of Bournemouth, Dorset, Poole, Swindon and Wiltshire will be served by one combined Fire and Rescue Service with 50 fire stations.
